For the first time since September 2017 when Category 5 Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the Virgin Islands, the Ritz Carlton St Thomas was able to welcome guests and Ritz Carlton Club members back to their property the weekend of October 5, 2018.
With a full reopening anticipated for Summer 2019, guests and members of Ritz Carlton Residence St Thomas were able to enjoy the on-site pool, hot tubs, beach access, various resort activities, and Coconut Cove restaurant. They were also able to experience many of the renovations completed before their arrival like refreshed exterior paint, improved landscaping, new elevators, new generators, as well as repaired or replaced air condition units, gutters, and doors. It will take time to update all 105 suites and amenities offered on the property, but the team at Ritz has come a long way since this time last year.
The Ritz Carlton St Thomas’ wind, flooding, and other damages are not unique to just this one area. As a whole, St. Thomas is still slowly recovering with various shops, restaurants, resorts, hotels, and other amenities opening over time. Nearby islands have similar experiences, with Ritz Carlton Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico welcoming back its own guests just a week prior. Not only have the physical damages in these communities been difficult to bear, but the loss of business has also shown its impact. Resort staff and locals are excited to have vacationers return and get back to their usual routines.
