Resort Information - Magalies Park Country Club

*Magalies Park Golf Resort* in South Africa is an RCI Gold Crown Resort awarded from 2003. It is ocated at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains, in a declared bird sanctuary, on the banks of the Hartbeesport Dam (30-40 minute drive from Sandton), The resort offers an 18 golf course and well as luxury accommodations for its guests.

Magalies Park offers you everything from passive relaxation to active recreation and much, much more. The choice is yours. Practice your swing on the driving range or go all out on the challenging 18-hole (SAGU Rated) golf course. Jog, or hike the scenic trails. Sweat it out at tennis or volley ball; or laze around the swimming pools. Ring the changes according to your mood. Join a river cruise or take a canoe or paddle boat; play pool or go fishing, picnic or play giant chess, court cricket or mini golf. There is very little you cannot do at Magalies Park Country Club. With such a wide choice of where to eat, it may take a few days to savour each facility made available to you at Magalies Park. The *Houtkapper* Restaurant is a festive family restaurant for relaxed and leisurely meals, while the *Old Cape Vulture* Buffet Restaurant provides a traditional Sunday buffet open only on Sundays. After dinner drinks and sundowners can be enjoyed in either the *Houtkapper* Pub or the *Eagles Nest* Bar, situated in the Sports Centre. GOLF CLUB: Magalies Park golf course is an 18-hole course designed by Loutjie van Aswegen. Here, the total length of the course is a men's 5 864m and a ladie's 5 001m. The course rating for men is 72 and for ladies is 70. While the course may not be very long, it does not, however, mean that the golfer can take out his driver and play to his heart's content. A number of small trees have been strategically placed and although there are few water holes and no bunkers, this is not a course for the faint-hearted, making for a challenging game of golf any day. Interesting holes are the par 4 8th, and the par 4 12th stroke five, which is one of the most attractively designed holes on the course. At the clubhouse, a Pro Shop is made available for all your golfing needs, golf cards and club hire. Lessons are available on request. The *Barn Owl*( Halfway House, the *Loeries Flight* takeaway and the *Albatross* Halfway House provide light meals and refreshments when the going gets tough. RIVER CRUISES - CRUISING ON *THE KOLGANS*: The *Kolgans* was purchased by Loutjie van Aswegen in 1988 in Knysna on the Cape south coast. It was used on the lagoon as a ferry showing visitors to Knysna the different sites and was called the *Spirit of Knysna*. It took three days to transport the vessel by road to Magalies Park and the only means of launching it into the Hartbeespoort Dam was by driving the truck into the dam until only the exhaust chimney on the cab stuck out of the water. The vessel weighs 4 tons and is 15 metres long and 4 metres wide. It is powered by two 90 horsepower motors and can accommodate 50 persons. Your conference or holiday would not be complete without a cruise on the renowned Hartbeespoort Dam! What could be better than toasting the sun setting on the oldest mountain range in the world, while you sip on your favourite drink. The trip on the "Kolgans" takes in the interesting sites along the dam's edge and at the same time fulfils you with natures wonders. Regular cruises take place daily. Private cruises can be arranged through the Reservations Department. (The *Kolgans* is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance and is therefore unavailable for bookings at present. The *Kolgans* should be operational by mid August - do check back!)
