Of all the Hawaiian Island, Kauai gets the "most thumbs up" for combined quality of beauty, variety, preservation, and availability of modern conveniences for vacationers. As the oldest among Hawaiian isles, it has had the most time to be sculpted and adorned by nature. Banyan Harbor Resort is a 10-minute drive to K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and grocery store, and a 10-minute drive from Lihue Airport. You can also tour the nearby Marriott Resort and Country Club grounds that center the bay/harbor. The Marriott has a bar - Duke’s - with a nice waterfall, and seating all around the waterfall and Koi pond. Next to the Marriott is a country club and tennis club with a full golf course. They have beautiful grounds, which you may wander through. Lydgate State Park has an enclosed area for snorkeling - highly recommended! as well as a nice playground for the kids.
