Club Las Calas occupies an elevated position in a quiet suburb of Puerto del Carmen, on the Island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. It has wide views of the coast to the South and of the nearby islands of Isla de Lobos and Fuertaventura. Because of its position on a hillside, the resort is not recommended for those who have difficulty in walking. Once a sleepy fishing village, Puerto del Carmen has grown into the Island ’s leading resort area. It has attractions for everyone: beautiful beaches, nightlife for all ages, sports facilities, lively pubs and quiet romantic bars. Its restaurants offer everything from fast food to haute cuisine, with locally-caught sea food a speciality. Further more, Lanzarote has much to offer the visitor, with the stark landscape of the volcanic Timanfaya National Park contrasting with the serenity of Haria: the Valley of a Thousand Palms. On site facilities include two bars, each with its own restaurant, a pool bar and a Leisure Complex, which boasts a fully fitted gymnasium (with on-site trainer), a squash court that doubles as a venue for table tennis and badminton, sauna and Cyber Lounge. The main Reception Desk sells postcards and stamps, provides money-changing facilities and can arrange car, motorcycle and bicycle hire. It also offers a range of excursions, including coach tours of the Island, scuba diving, sailing and wine-tasting. The complex has four, heated swimming pools – one in each area of the resort. Around each pool is a sun terrace, provided with large numbers of sun-beds and parasols, which are free for guests to use. Padded cushions for the sun beds are available for a small rental fee. The resort is around 7 miles (10 km) from the Island ’s airport at Arrecife and is readily accessible by car or taxi. The Club is situated just over half a mile (1 km) from the main beach - with its many shops, restaurants, bars and night clubs –and just over a mile (3 km) from the harbour and Old Town of Puerto del Carmen. There are also a number of shops and supermarkets within easy walking distance, for those who wish to cater for themselves.
