The *North Shore Resort at Lake Oconee* was initially developed in the Spring of 1988. The resort was developed in response to tremendous recreational growth around Lake Oconee. Lake Oconee was created in 1979 by Georgia Power Company when they built the Wallace Dam, impounding the waters of the Oconee and Apalachee Rivers for the production of electricity. Lake Oconee is the second largest lake in the state of Georgia with 19,050 acres of water and 374 miles of beautifully wooded shoreline. Fifty-eight acres make up The North Shore Resort at Lake Oconee. The resort was developed with a "railroad" theme, and 23 railroad cars were brought in and used as offices, recreational areas, shops, and accommodations. Club cars, cabooses, and boxcars were used in the design scheme, giving the resort a truly unique flavor. The railroad cars exist today and are just one of the amenities that makes The North Shore Resort at Lake Oconee a premier destination in the Southeast!
