This gracious 2,800-acre mountaintop retreat is owned and operated by the Trapp family of Trapp Family Singers and Sound of Music fame. The resort has Austrian-style guesthouses, magnificent gardens, spectacular views, and live music. The Lodge dining room and Austrian Tea Room prepare exceptional cuisine. The Tyrolean architecture of the Main Lodge is accented by hand-carved balustrades, steeply pitched gables and a cedar shake roof with an Austrian bell tower. Guests relax in the comfortably appointed common rooms and libraries including the Sun Room, Family Room, Library and Living Rooms - each with individual character and views, and some with fireplaces. Relax in front of a roaring fire with your favorite novel, or play a board game with a friend. Large windows throughout the Main Lodge provide guests with continuous views and a constant reminder that they are in a true mountain resort. DINING: European-style cuisine is featured in three restaurants - The Dining Room, The Lounge and the Austrian Tea Room - each with its own distinct character. Executive Chef Juergen Spagolla, a native of Austria, has designed the ever-changing menus to reflect both Austrian and Vermont traditions. He and his staff select only the season's freshest local produce, game and fish, using herbs and vegetables grown in the resort's own gardens. THE NORDIC SKI CENTER: The Ski Center Today is a contemporary lodge with a retail shop and equipment rentals (including the Fischer "demo: program). 45km of groomed trails and 100km of back-country trails make the ski center Stowe's largest - suitable for all ages and abilities. Be sure to make the exhilarating trip (on skis or snowshoes) to the Slayton Pasture Cabin where soup, sandwiches, hot chocolate and homemade cookies are served fireside.
