Florida Travel Numbers Still Rising After Irma
December 5th 2017 Posted by: SellMyTimeshareNow SMTN Category: Industry News

Despite a busy hurricane season that saw plenty of areas hit hard with power outages and infrastructure damages, 2017 is still poised to be a year of growth for Florida travel. Even after Hurricane Irma, which delivered massive blackouts and flooding to parts of the state, Florida’s tourism industry will have grown by as much as 3.3% compared to the same period last year. The numbers represent a crowd of more than 88 million tourists that visited the state during the first nine months of the year alone.

Hurricane Irma was part of a barrage of strong tropical storms and hurricanes that hammered the Caribbean and the Southeast United States throughout the latter half of 2017. The storm set its sights on Florida in September, causing a whirlwind of damage to popular travel destinations like Miami, Marco Island, Sanibel Island, and most notably, the Florida Keys. 70 deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Irma, which went down as one of the strongest hurricanes the state has ever seen.

What the Numbers Mean for Florida Timeshare

Florida governor Rick Scott revealed that a late-season advertisement push by Visit Florida, the state’s tourism marketing arm, helped let people know that Florida was still open for business after the storm. As a result, the Florida timeshare industry undoubtedly blossomed as well.

Popular timeshare destinations across the state saw massive damages. Resorts in Key West were closed for weeks as the island’s infrastructure and utilities were restored. However, other timeshare hotspots like Captiva Island, Fort Myers Beach, and others were also on the receiving end of major setbacks. But, as Florida travel numbers grow, the timeshare industry as a whole continues to grow as well. ARDA reports that timeshare sales grew in 2016, and are poised to do the same in 2017.
