Whatever Happened to Summer Bay Resort?

The Summer Bay Sinkhole

In December of 2013, Summer Bay Resort Orlando experienced a sinkhole that caused a massive 60-foot-wide collapsing of two three-story villas where vacationers had been housed. Evacuation of the buildings occurred hours before the collapse and no injuries were reported in the event. However, the Summer Bay Resort sinkhole left an incredibly damaged foundation and countless safety issues for its staff and guests alike.

But with a perfect location just outside famed Walt Disney World and surrounded by other popular Orlando attractions, this favorite 400-acre lakeside resort refused to stay closed for long. In May 2014, Summer Bay Orlando was officially re-branded to ownership under the Exploria Resorts umbrella.

The Renovation Under Exploria Resorts

Exploria Resorts signed on for a two-year renovation project to give Summer Bay the greatest facelift the resort has ever seen—complete with a new foundation, total renovation of all 500+ accommodation units, a new state-of-the-art 10,000 square-foot activities center, and addition of the Buccaneer Bay Adventure Park.

Today, the Summer Bay Orlando Resort presents guests an exciting family-friendly stay, making for the perfect Orlando getaway. Luxury accommodations range from studios to two-bedroom condos, and include a fully-equipped kitchen, private balcony, washer and dryer unit, complimentary Wi-Fi, and much more. Enjoy free shuttle service to the Walt Disney theme parks, as well as numerous activities right on-site.
