Disney World Construction News DVC Owners Won’t Want to Miss

Disney has long been a leader in the travel and vacation ownership industries, and they haven’t slowed down its progress of providing guests with incredible resort and park experiences. Over the weekend alone, several Disney World updates were announced that have people, specifically its Disney Vacation Club members, even more excited to visit the most magical place on earth.

Here’s a quick recap on what you might have missed:

DVC Opens 200 New Rooms at the Grand Floridian

On June 23, the long-anticipated Disney Vacation Club 200-room expansion at the beautiful Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was finally unveiled and began welcoming its first guests. The construction of these rooms took place in the Big Pine Key building which used to house traditional hotel rooms.

Taking inspiration from the classic Disney film, Mary Poppins, these spacious rooms have been decked out with top-of-the-line finishes and furnishings that are an updated take on Victorian colors and style with subtle appreciation to the film through artwork and other room details.

This expansion will not only allow for more DVC owners to stay at a preferred Disney World resort, but it also introduces a new DVC room category unique to the Grand Floridian called the Resort Studio. The Resort Studio is different from DVC’s traditional Studio Villas in that the usual DVC kitchenettes are not present, as well as the use of two queen beds instead of a queen and a sofa bed. Though the in-room amenities have shifted slightly, guests will still be blown away by the updates.

In addition to the Grand Floridian’s new Resort Studios, DVC has also taken the time to refresh Citricos, one of its on-site restaurants, as well as the existing one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas. The property’s fine-dining option, Victoria & Alberts, is set to reopen on June 28.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort’s Top of the World Lounge Reopens July 11

DVC owners will be thrilled to hear that the Top of the World Lounge at Contemporary Resort will reopen its doors to eligible members on July 11.

Now named Top of the World Lounge — A Villians Lair, visitors will be able to experience a variety of decor that was “left behind” at the lounge by some of the most popular Disney villains. Portraits, accessories, and even a brand new menu inspired by these characters will welcome anyone who enters the lounge for food, drinks, and to watch the fireworks at Magic Kingdom.

From July 8-10, the DVC will be hosting a hard-ticket firework party with drinks and appetizers called “Born to be Bad” that members staying at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels can be purchased. From July 11 on, the lounge will be open 6 PM to midnight most nights.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort Completes Demolition of the Aloha Building

Disney’s Polynesian is one step closer to starting its newest DVC wing! The property has just completed the demolition of the Aloha Building which was once home to the Spirit of Aloha show. Within a week, the entire building was taken down and the clean-up of debris is well underway.

The Aloha Building will be replaced with a multi-level Disney Vacation Club wing that will include additional accommodations, dining options, and recreational offerings. The building is expected to open in late 2024.
