Club Wyndham is a points-based program with a floating use right (meaning your points are not tied to a specific unit). As an owner with Wyndham Vacation Resorts, you purchase an allotment of Points at an individual Wyndham resort (your "home resort"), which you can then exchange for accommodations at any Wyndham Vacation Resort.

The number of points needed to reserve time at any Wyndham time share varies depending on resort, unit size and season. High-demand properties like Wyndham Bonnet Creek (which is located just one mile from Epcot in Orlando, FL) require more points to book a week. The benefit of having a resort like this as your "home resort" is that it gives you greater exchange value with RCI, the exchange company affiliate with the majority of the Wyndham timeshare resorts.

Whether you buy Wyndham timeshares on the resale market or directly from Wyndham, you become a member of Club Wyndham. Depending on your home resort, you may also receive:

  • An RCI membership may be automatically issued to you (keep in mind that this membership is not free, the dues are part of your annual maintenance fees).
  • A membership with Trading Places is included at many of the Wyndham resort properties in Hawaii.
  • Advance priority reservations allow you to reserve units at your home resort up to 13 months in advance (reservations at other Wyndham Resorts must be made within the normal reservation period).

Wyndham Points: Understanding Resale Ownership

The primary difference between purchasing Wyndham resale points or purchasing Wyndham vacation points from the developer is that Wyndham resales do nor count toward VIP status in the Club Wyndham program. (The VIP program - available to owners with over 500,000 points - allows for priority booking and other benefits.) In other words, when VIP members sell Wyndham timeshare on the resale market, the points cannot count toward the 500,000 points needed for the new owner to become a VIP member (except when the third-party purchaser is an immediate family member).

However, if you are already a VIP member, you can still USE any additional resale points you purchase in conjunction with your developer-bought points. Wyndham Points for sale on the resale market will still be fully functional within the system, they just cannot help you REACH the VIP level.

Most owners feel that the limited benefits of VIP status do not outweigh the the much more affordable cost of purchasing Wyndham time shares on the resale market.
