Summer is slowly slipping away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t squeeze in one more getaway before school starts back up. August is a notoriously hot month, so what better way to have fun than visit one of America’s best water parks? It’s important to stay cool when visiting these summer travel spots, and water parks are the most enjoyable way to do so.

Water Country USA – Williamsburg, VA

Historic Williamsburg is more than just museums and plantations—it is also a great summer travel spot, and home of one of the best maintained water parks in America. Complete with 11 different rides and slides, this park prides itself in being family friendly and is dedicated to serving and conserving its surrounding community. Ride the Aquazoid with three other friends and get splashed throughout the dark twists and turns. Or, disappear from sight with Vanish Point—stand on the skybox and drop 75-feet after the floor beneath you vanishes. There are also plenty of places to relax and enjoy the sunshine with the lazy river, wave pool beach, and private cabana rentals. Tickets for those 10 and up start at $51. Discounted tickets for under 10, multi-day passes, and group discounts are available. Stay close by and visit the park more than once at Williamsburg Planation Resort. As an added bonus, sister-park Busch Gardens is located just three short miles away.

Noah’s Ark – Wisconsin Dells, WI

If you find yourself vacationing in Wisconsin Dells this summer, you must be sure to visit Noah’s Ark—the nation’s largest water park. This water park is filled with activities that will satisfy every vacationer in your family. Choose from 52 slides, two different wave pools, two Endless Rivers, and a surfing simulator. All thrill levels will be satisfied, from America’s most thrilling water coaster—the Black Anaconda—to four children’s play areas to splash around in. The adults can also indulge on a beer or margarita at one of the three different bars located throughout the park. General admission tickets are available for $38.99. Family meal packages, junior/senior discounts, and advanced tickets are also available. Find accommodations less than 10 minutes away at Wyndham Tamarack Resort.

White Water Park – Branson, MO

Find thrills and tons of family fun at Silver Dollar City in Branson. While smaller than the average water park, it makes up for it with it’s well-organized family atmosphere. This park also stays open until 10 PM during the season for exciting nighttime swimming and riding. This park also plays host to “Dive-In” movie nights on Fridays—popular family-friendly movies screened over the wave pool for a truly unique event that all can enjoy. Launch down a 245-foot, 70-degree slide with the KaPau Plummet, drift along the Aloha River, or fly down the 7-story slide, Kalani Towers. There’s also a plethora of dining options to feed your appetite as you run about the park. Tickets are available for ages 12 and up at $60. However, the best value can be found with a 3 day, 2 park pass at $100. You can also purchase night water tickets for access to the park after 5:00 PM. Great lodging can be found close by at Branson Yacht Club.

Wet ‘n’ Wild – Orlando, FL

This is the best water park to bring all your friends and family. With the most multi-rider rides available at any water park in the country, Wet ‘n’ Wild Orlando is sure to bring thrills and excitement to everyone. Adults will love to reminisce with the 70s music that plays as a group of four rides down Disco H2O—complete with lights, lasers, and a disco ball. Set up a fun competition at the Aqua Drag Racer, where you and three others will go head-to-head down 360 feet of thrilling track. You’ll also find a lazy river, 17,000 square foot wave pool, and Florida’s largest interactive play area, Blastaway Beach. Out of state visitor tickets start at $47 for ages 10 and up. If you are lucky enough to live in Florida, you can buy an online day pass for $39. Children 2 and under get in for free, and three day passes, flex tickets, and express passes are available. Nearby you’ll find Universal Orlando with plenty of other amusement parks to explore, making Orlando one of the best summer travel spots with convenient lodging at Orlando International Resort Club.
