We’re right in the thick of ski season and we at SellMyTimeshareNow.com are serving up a piping hot debate over our first ski destination matchup. It’s a classic East Coast vs. West Coast head-to-head between Breckenridge, Colorado’s Grand Timber Lodge and Killington, Vermont’s North Star Vacation Club.

We compared the two ski destinations and specific resorts based on everything travelers want to know about for their ski vacations. Everything from the mountains to the nearby attractions to the resort amenities and even the food! We’ve done the research and are pleased to announce our findings.

Overview

The first and most obvious difference between Grand Timber Lodge and North Star Vacation Club is their locations. The resorts are located in Breckenridge, Colorado and Killington, Vermont. Grand Timber Lodge Breckenridge sits at the base of the 14,000 foot Rocky Mountains while North Star Vacation Club Killington is in a quaint New England town right in the center of the Green Mountain State. If you’re not within driving distance of these amazing getaways, the closest airport to North Star Vacation Club is 85 miles away at Burlington International Airport, while the closest airport to Breckenridge is Denver International Airport located 95 miles away.

Ski Resorts

Positioned between Peak 8 and Peak 9 of the award-winning Breckenridge Ski Resort, Grand Timber Lodge is one of the best ski in/ski out resorts in the country. Guests can be, quite literally, steps away from the mountain, walking no more than 75 yards to their skis and snowboards. Breckenridge Mountain features 187 trails, 34 total lifts, and has a summit elevation of almost 13,000 feet, giving you an unrivaled view over the breathtaking Colorado plains. With over 2,900 acres of ski terrain, you’ve got plenty of ground to cover when the fresh powder falls.

While Killington Ski Resort has a more intimate skiable area at 752 acres, it features up to 140 trails at a summit elevation of about 4,200 feet. The mountain has 22 lifts, a terrain park, snow tubing trails, snowshoe trails and five terrain parks. North Star Vacation Club is a short eight minute drive or eighteen minute bus ride from the Killington Ski Area.

Resort Amenities

Grand Timber Lodge offers all variations of living arrangements from studio units to three-bedroom condominiums and everything in between. Whether you’re bringing the whole family for a bonding trip or that special someone for a romantic getaway, you’ll find essential amenities and accommodations in most units including a king-sized bed, cozy living room with a sleeper sofa, full sized kitchen, private balcony, and a fireplace. You’ll also have access to plenty of other awesome amenities like the arcade room, fitness center, indoor pool, and lounge area complete with comfy chairs and a pool table.

North Star Vacation Club features one- to two-bedroom hotel-style units. Each unit features cozy king-sized beds, pull-out sofas, a fireplace, central heating, a patio or terrace, and some units have a full kitchen. The resort itself features a sauna, outdoor swimming pool, and an arcade/game room. The fitness center is a short mile away from the resort.

Nearby Attractions

Both resorts have gorgeous downtown areas that feature plenty of shopping, dining, and nightlife options anytime you’re looking for a quick break from the slopes.

Breckenridge offers a wealth of fun activities all winter long. Towards the end of January, the city hosts a Snow Sculpture Championship which pits local artists in a competition of building the most creative work of art out of snow. Breckenridge is also home to several storefronts in its downtown area such as bookstores, jewelry, antiques, sporting goods and more. Many storefronts feature work from local artists. There is also an outlet mall close to the Grand Timber Lodge as well if you’re looking for goodies that are cheaper in price but no less cheaper in quality!

Killington also offers plenty of non-skiing attractions to the get travelers out in the fresh air for some fun. Rent a fat bike and go for a nice bike ride on the powder with the wide, durable wheels. Grab your group and embark on a relaxing mile-and-a-quarter gondola ride up to the peak of Mount Killington. Stay grounded with a snowcat-drawn sleigh ride or go aerial with a Skyeride, a zipline that’s 600 feet long and 100 feet high. Killington does also have a nice downtown area with several outlet stores featuring brand name clothing and accessories.

Food and Drink

Breckenridge offers many wonderful pit stops for everything from quick bites to full dinners. Blue River Bistro features a hearty American menu and elegant decor, Columbine Cafe is a rustic spot for a coffee and a tea, or you can check out Breckenridge Brewery & Pub which offers microbrews, pub grub, and much more.

Killington’s downtown area also features tons of wonderful cafes, restaurants, and pubs. The Foundry at Summit Pond is a first class joint as well as family friendly; iPie Pizzeria has some of the most top-notch pizza in town, and Liquid Art Coffeehouse is great for coffees, teas, and delicious treats! Enjoy a number of great cigar shops as well. Some even feature Cuban style cigars to keep you warm on a nice snowy day.
