The research group, Leger, recently conducted a survey for the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) with over 1,000 vacationers. Participants were asked to rate their vacations within the past three years, with queries including frequency of vacations, ease of planning, and overall satisfaction.

The survey showed that an impressive one third of timeshare owners took four or more vacations in the last three years, compared to only 18% of non-owners. In addition, travelers that have taken more than four vacations in the past three years are more likely to be traveling with family and friends.

“When the cover story in Time Magazine asks ‘Who Killed the Summer Vacation,’ our answer has to be ‘it sure wasn’t the timeshare owner’,” commented president and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), Howard Nusbaum. “Not only do timeshare owners vacation more, they also experience a happier, more relaxing vacation time, usually spent with their loved ones—which we all know is tough to come by with today’s hectic lifestyles.”

Research indicates that seven distinct vacation lifecycle phases can measure happiness in a vacation. These phases include the level of stress planning a vacation, experience on the first day of vacation, through to the afterglow the vacation leaves after returning to daily life. Timeshare owners expressed higher satisfaction than non-owners in every one of these phases.

Survey participants were also asked which aspect of vacation they saw as the most critical in making plans for future vacationing. According to 45% of timeshare owners, “relaxation” is the most important aspect. Owners chose to purchase a timeshare because ease of planning a vacation comes with a timeshare ownership—including peace of mind knowing that their vacation is prepaid and having the flexibility to select from a wide variety of accommodations and destinations.

Nusbaum continues, “The ease of planning, spacious accommodations, and the ability to choose resorts all over the world all lead to a better overall vacation experience for timeshare owners.”
