Travel Guide: What You Need to Know When Traveling with Kids

Family vacations provide you and your children with wonderful long-lasting memories that are guaranteed to bring you closer together. Kids and grandkids grow up in the blink of an eye, so travelling together and experiencing new places together is of massive importance. However, traveling with kids is easier said than done, and adults have many things to consider before packing the family up and heading off into a new direction.

Since summer is right around the corner, the vacation experts here at SellMyTimeshareNow.com have compiled a few handy tips to traveling with children in our newest Travel Guide.

Ages 0-4

Traveling with infants and toddlers can be quite taxing. All parents want to ensure their child’s safety and comfort when traveling with them, but they often run into challenges making sure all their bases are covered. For starters, give yourselves plenty of time to get to and from airports, shuttle stops, and destinations. Accounting for a toddler’s curious exploring and tantrums is perhaps the most important preparation to make.

Secondly, don’t skimp on supplies. Make sure you have enough clothes (whether you’re traveling during the winter or summer), baby wipes, diapers, sunscreen, and anything else you might possibly need. Additionally, it’s never a bad idea to load your phone or tablet with kid-friendly apps to keep them entertained during travel.

Lastly, find a resort that offers babysitting services. You’ll love all the memories you’re making with your little one, but at least one night of an adults-only excursion is always a great idea!

Ages 5-10

For older children, the vacation needs are a bit different. Keeping this age group entertained on vacation is a bit easier than traveling with toddlers, but it is still important to keep a few key things in mind. Bring plenty of activities or games wherever you’re going, in the event of rain or other bad weather. Additionally, when planning your accommodations, be sure to pick a resort that offers plenty of on-site amenities that are kid-friendly. Look for resorts with large or multiple swimming pools, arcades or game rooms, and more. Some resorts, like Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, offer educational children’s activities on-site. Some resorts even offer attractions like mini golf or video game rentals on site.

Ages 11+

Preteens and teenagers are largely independent and don’t require as much careful preparation as younger children. However, be sure to include them when planning an itinerary. Get them involved in decisions on what to see and when—it will result in them becoming more interested and involved in contributing to the trip. Also, you can look for certain resorts that offer teen-specific social events and gatherings to pique their interest—the Harborside at Atlantis features an exclusive teens-only club!

Regardless of what age your kids are, traveling with them each year will prove to be rewarding and exceedingly special. The memories you’ll make will far outweigh any travel concerns or stress you may encounter along the way. Some resorts are better than others at accommodating kids, and many of these resorts are timeshare properties.
