It takes more than luck to win it! The tournament benefits the Virgin Islands Council of the Boy Scouts of America. ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF ~ The Cook Off is a fundraiser organized by the Texas Society; the funds raised are used to benefit various island charitable groups. The Texas Society, a group of Texas transplants to the Virgin Islands, set up a branch of the Chili Appreciation Society in St. Thomas and every year they have the Chili Cook Off. Participants in the Cook Off are numerous; often there are some 30 booths. Participants serve mild chili, hot chili, vegetarian-chili, super hot and on and on. The booths are sponsored by hotels, individuals, restaurants and during election time even senators! Chili is the main theme but there are a few booths with beer, among other drinks like soda and water of course! Games for children and adults like tug-of-war and water balloon toss.
