Disney enthusiasts and members of the Disney Vacation Club look forward to the biennial D23 Expo. At these events, many big announcements are made regarding new rides, attractions, and other general Disney updates. The most recent D23 Expo was hosted in Anaheim, California from August 23-25.
The announcements from D23 featured a lot of big reveals about exciting additions to the Disney parks and other Disney-related events. Here are the highlights from the 2019 D23 announcement.
Disney cruises have been popular for years, and the brand is coming up with more cruise experiences. Three new ships will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The first of these ships, known as the Disney Wish, will be coming in late 2021 to set sail in January of 2022. This ship will have Rapunzel at the stern, representing her “wish” to see the world.
There will also be new signature island experiences that will celebrate the beauty and nature of The Bahamas at a new Disney port of call located at a place called Lighthouse Point.
The Epcot park will be undergoing some big changes. While the park will stay true to its vision, there will be more elements of Disney storytelling that will be brought to life. The parks will have four neighborhoods that each celebrate a certain element of Epcot, including:
There are huge celebrations planned for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World that will take place in each of the resort’s four theme parks. These celebrations will include new attraction openings, new entertainment, unique food and beverage options, merchandise, and so much more.
In late 2020, Disney Genie will make its debut. This digital service will enhance the way guests plan for their Walt Disney World Resort vacation. This offering will provide customized itineraries geared to any and all interests.
Those who attended the D23 Expo got to take a first look at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This is the first ride-through attraction to feature Mickey and Minnie Mouse and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in 2020. It will also open in Disneyland in 2022.
Many are familiar with the stunning shows put on by Cirque du Soleil. Now they will be offering a first-of-its-kind show that will celebrate the magic of Walt Disney Animation Studios. This act will combine Disney storytelling paired with Cirque du Soleil’s signature artistry. Previews for this show will start March 20, 2020, and will premiere on April 17.
