Did you know that just two years ago, a terrible trend was on the rise in the U.S.? Americans were forfeiting their vacation time each year. One report showed that unused vacation time was at a 40-year high in the U.S., with the equivalent of about $224 billion going to companies. Meaning, employees’ were giving up more than $52 billion in earned benefits each year!
This is the year to turn things around, America! Use your vacation days; it’s not only great for spending time with loved ones and seeing new places, but you need it. Your mind and body need the break to relax and rejuvenate. There’s no need to break the bank either. Below are our 2016 travel goals recommended for you.
We’ve already made a pretty good case for this, but in case you need more stats and facts to back this up, we’ve come prepared. Your stress will dramatically reduce. Taking a break for a day or more will help give you perspective on the role of your job within your life. In turn, your concentration at work will also improve. You’ll find an increase in your overall job satisfaction.
Lastly, taking a vacation is good for your health. The New York Times recently reported that those who take less than one vacation every two years are more likely to suffer from depression and burnout. Who wants that? Use those days off, they were given to you for a reason.
These days there are so many alternatives to traditional travel that can save you hundreds of dollars. For example, in the digital world we live in, there are an abundance of flash deal sites offering discounts on airfare, cruises and hotel rooms. There have also been studies that show the best time to buy your tickets are Tuesdays and Wednesdays midday, and traveling on red-eyes, weekdays, or off-season periods will garner you better prices.
Also, if traveling with a large group or looking for the comforts of home, renting a timeshare is an affordable option that will give you the space and comfort you need without breaking the bank. You can book stays for a few days or a week at a time, have multiple rooms and bathrooms, as well as a kitchen and living room at your disposal—all under one roof.
Now that we’ve established traveling is good for the mind, body and work ethic—where should you go? In 2016, it’s time to venture out and travel to a new destination. Visiting new places connects us to other cultures and people, expands our awareness and introduces us to greater diversity. Plus, journeying to an up-and-coming destination that isn’t as popular as some others will offer more bang for your buck while still being a new, fun adventure for you and your loved ones.
We challenge you to accept these travel goals as your own and live adventurously this 2016!
