Shell Timeshares: Understanding Resale Ownership

Right now you can purchase timeshares at Shell Resorts directly from a current owner through Sell My Timeshare NOW, allowing you to save thousands off the original asking price. But what Shell Vacation Ownership products are actually available on the resale market? We believe that it's essential for you to understand exactly what you can buy on the resale market - so read on to learn more about Shell Club vacations and time shares!

There are currently two types of Shell products available on the resale market:

  1. Shell Vacation Points within a Shell Owners Club (also known as a "Home Club"), and
  2. Deeded Shell timeshare intervals - often a fixed week at a specific Shell Vacations Club Resort.

Depending on the way you prefer to vacation, there are benefits to both options.

Shell Vacation Club Points

If you are the type of vacationer who prefers flexibility - you enjoy visiting a new destination each year and want the option of planning shorter getaways - then SVC Resort Points are probably the right option for you.

How it works:

  • Rather than buying directly into SVC, you buy Points from one of the Home Clubs. Shell has four Home Clubs into which you can buy:
    • Shell Owners Club - Americana (SVC Americana)
    • Shell Owners Club - Hawaii (SVC Hawaii)
    • Shell Owners Club - Pacific (SVC Pacific)
    • Shell Owners Club - West (SVC West)
  • Each Owners Club encompasses a specific set of Shell Vacation Resorts (see the list below for a breakdown).
  • Home Club membership automatically entitles you to a Shell SVC membership. (Think of SVC as an internal exchange and reservation system.)
  • Every year you will receive an annual allotment of Points within your Owner's Club rather than at a specific Shell Resort.
  • At the resorts within your Home Club, you enjoy the privilege of priority booking - meaning you can request reservations up to a year in advance of check-in.
  • Outside your Owners Club network, you can request reservations up to 276 days (about 9 months) in advance of check-in at ANY of the other Shell Resorts.
  • Every Shell Vacations Club Resort is assigned a nightly Points value based on season, size of unit, etc.
  • If you can't go on vacation one year, or if you don't wish to use all your Points in one year, you can "bank" your Points (at least four months prior to the end of the usage year), and they will carry over into the next usage year.
  • If you need additional Shell Vacation Points one year to hand-tailor the perfect vacation, you can borrow from a future usage year.
  • Once you are a SVC member, there are NO FEES for exchanging or banking with the Shell time share network, and you receive discounted rates on Shell vacation rentals and other perks.

But the benefits don't end there. Shell Vacation Club memberships also include an annual membership with RCI, giving Shell Points owners access to over 4,000 additional resorts around the world through RCI's external exchange program.

Resale Points are also eligible for the SVC Collections program, which allows you to "spend" your Vacation Points like currency for other travel necessities and perks including cruises, flights, golf, skiing, dining, spas and more. (Buyers, Please Note: Resale Points are not eligible for use in the SVCLifestyles or SVC Elite programs.)

If you are thinking about becoming a Points owner, be sure to purchase within the Home Club that contains the resorts you are likely to visit most often; this way you will have the advantage of early booking.

Also be sure that you know what you are buying. Within Shell Club Vacations, there are two types of Points available - Permanent Points and Standard Points. Permanent Points are similar to deeded Shell Vacation Ownership and are just what they sound like - you own them and will receive them for each usage year in perpetuity. Standard Points, on the other hand, are similar to a RTU lease on a timeshare, meaning the Points have an expiry date. Members in SVC Americana, SVC West or SVC Pacific all have "Permanent Points." If you are a member of SVC Hawaii, you can have either type of Shell Vacation Club Points depending on the SVC Resort.

Deeded Shell Time Share Ownership

If you are the type of vacationer who prefers consistency - you enjoy visiting the same destination each year and like to travel during a specific week - then fixed interval Shell timeshares are probably the right option for you.
